The riches of my friend are riches of my own

Life rarely gives us all of what we wish for, and often there are others around us more richly blessed with that which we covet most. While it would be easy to respond with jealousy or envy, it is harder – but certainly more in the spirit of love – to look happily upon the fortunes of others while being full of gratitude for our own. Comparison is the enemy of gratitude, and thus the enemy of joy and love. The riches of my friend are riches of my own, for of certainty his joy is my joy, his happiness begets my own. Those are the sentiments born of a loving heart.
